The modern lifestyle (e.g. poor choice of foods, less physical activity) the primary cause of these so-called lifestyle-related diseases, the biological response to a faulty food/lifestyle system.
One of the believes of the old Okinawans is that the food that you absorb in your body every day should be infused with the power of the earth (plants) and the vitality of the sea (seaweed and seafood.) They perceive themselves more as descendants of the Middle Age island kingdom Ryuku which had its own, distinctive culture�being an exotic melting pot and trading post with influences from Polynesia, China, Mongolia and Korea than Japan. There culture more than four thousand years old.
The beneficent powers of algae�here called seaweed known well. Estimates say that people in Okinawa eat about five times more of it than their fellow countrymen elsewhere in Japan. The average consumption in Japan is estimated at 2 gram dried seaweed day.
