Bio alcohol & bio diesel from algae
Algae need primarily three components to grow: sunlight, carbon-dioxide and water. They use the sunlight to form all kind of substances like sugars, protein, fat, vitamins etc.
In principle a biochemical process in which plants, algae, and some bacteria convert the energy of sunlight into a form of chemical energy.
Finding algae strains to grow isn't too difficult. Cultivating specific strains of algae for bio diesel a bit more difficult, as they can require a specific environment to be highly productive and reproduce, in addition can get easily contaminated by less desirable species.

Growing of seaweed & algae in open ponds
Since algae need for their growth sunlight, carbon-dioxide and water, they can be cultivated in open ponds & lakes.
The real challenge with a pond is that most of the species of algae with the highest oil content are not the quickest to reproduce.
For this reason, the number of species that have been successfully cultivated for a given purpose in an open system is relatively small.
In addition, in open systems there is limited control over water temperature, salt concentration & lighting conditions.
The growing season is largely dependent on location and, aside from tropical areas, is limited to the warmer months. The benefits of this type of system are that it is one of the cheaper ones to produce . You only need to dig a trench or pond.
Many pounds do use sea greens like sea lettuce because they are not critical with regard to; salt concentration, temperature and reproduction.
Use for Bio-alcohol.
Seaweed & algae are rich in complex sugars.(Starch) The amount will exceed in most species the amount of oil present. Through conversion and fermentation turned into alcohol.

Algae or seaweed produce a mixture of methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol etc.
