Introduction                            Hello, Welcome to our health benefit of seaweed info site.  We have worked hard to make sure that many of the health benefit of seaweed can be found here.

It includes: General information on nutrition. Less common substances. Including health hazards of the use of modern foods/lifestyle.

For fast reading, scan through the topic headings on the right and select what is off particular interest for you.

Orthomolecular nutrition.( Linus Pauling )

Optimum nutrition is the medicine of the future.

**The optimum nutritional micro-environment of every cell in the body is vital to achieve or restore optimal health; deficiencies in this environment cause the body to be more susceptible to diseases and degeneration. To complicate matter even more: Ill health can be brought about by an imbalance of nutrients, both producing either an excess or deficiency which in turn affects body functioning. The previous mechanistic view of food merely as fuel thus falls short. Foods and their diverse components are capable of affecting the control of metabolism directly via hormones and genes, to the effect that different foods can for example affect energy expenditure to varying degrees, also when energy intake is constant. Food is and was medicine after all, resulting in the

emergency of Nutrition-related health complications such as coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, various cancers, diabetes mellitus, gallstones, dental caries (cavities), gastrointestinal disorders, various bone and joint diseases and obesity.

Development/Prevention of Chronic food, lifestyle- and obesity-related diseases.

There is little doubt that the change in the way we produce (grow) food, the use of herbicide and pesticide, application of modern food processing technologies including storage has contributed to this development. Fresh, whole foods provide higher amounts and a more favourable balance of essential and vital nutrients per unit of energy, resulting in better management of cell growth, maintenance, and cell division as well as of appetite and energy balance.

But processed foods are often cheaper, more convenient (in purchasing, storage, and preparation), and more available, the consumption of nutritionally inferior foods has been increasing. The food processing industry is a major part of the modern economy, and very influential in political decisions (e.g. nutritional recommendations, agricultural subsidising). That in fact in any known profit-driven economy, health considerations are hardly a priority; effective production of cheap foods with a long shelf-life is more important.

Supplement of minerals, vitamins using seaweed.

In an attempt to prevent the development of chronic disease lifestyle- and obesity-related diseases, seaweed is increasingly used.

Most nutrients are, in some way or the other; involved in cell-to-cell signalling (e.g. as building block or part of a hormone or signalling 'cascades'), deficiency or excess of various nutrients affects hormonal function also indirectly. Thus, because they largely regulate the expression of genes, hormones represent a link between nutrition and how our genes are expressed. Eating a variety of fresh, whole (unprocessed) foods has proven hormonally and metabolically favourable compared to eating a monotonous diet based on processed foods. In particular, fresh, whole foods provide higher amounts and a more favourable balance of essential and vital nutrients, resulting in better management of cell growth, maintenance, and cell division as well as regulating of appetite and energy balance. The pivotal role for nutrition in hormonal activity and function and therefore in health can not be promoted enough. Health benefits, the strengthening of the immune system, well being, wellness and overall protection.
