 The green seaweeds (division Chlorophyta) will grow near the surface (inhabit the shallowest zones) Chlorophyll, which is contained in algae, is very important. Algae are the highest known source of chlorophyll that is vital for rapid assimilation of amino acids. Eating high chlorophyll foods helps production of vitamin E in the body.

 

 

Ulva or sea lettuce.

Sea lettuce appears bright green and grows in thin, crumpled membranous fronds two cells thick. A macro algae present, does grow nearly everywhere. It grows in salt or brackish waters, particularly in those that are nutrient-rich or polluted. Sea lettuce grows along rocky or sandy coasts of oceans and estuaries. In Britain and Asia it is consumed by humans and livestock and is considered valuable to human nutrition  Because of its antibacterial properties used in the past treating skin irritations topically, including burns.

A distinctive flavour and aroma, vibrant dark green, This sea vegetable tends to have a slight bitter taste when cooked, unless added to other ingredients. Used world-wide in soups and roasted for garnishes. It is useful as roughage in the human digestive system. Ulva is a particularly popular food in Scotland. Use for Salads, crudités and vinaigrettes.

A very high iron content, as well as high in protein, iodine, aluminium, manganese and nickel. They also contain vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin C, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, soluble nitrogen, phosphorous, chloride, silicon, rubidium, strontium, barium, radium, cobalt, boron and traceelements.

Why seagreens.

 

For the first 6000 years of civilization, humans relied on foods and herbs for medicine. Only in the past 80 years have we forgotten our medicinal "roots" in favour of patent medicines. While pharmaceuticals have their value, we should not forget the well-documented, non-toxic and inexpensive healing properties of whole foods.
